Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 71

I wonder how many people remember Punisher got his start as a Spider-man anti-hero? Did you know Iqaluit was the capital of Nunavut?

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 71
    We damn me to Tuesday.

A friend saw a specialist doctor and came back with a document talking about the impact of food on blood sugar and insulin levels.

Glucose apparently is a small molecule which is why cells like it for fuel. Carbs in all forms (whole grain or not) turn into glucose. The speed at which carbs do this is directly proportional to how refined they are. E.g. whole grains are often pulverized before use in food making them just as fast a sugar hit in your blood stream as plain white bread. Fruit juices have a glucose/fructose chain that breaks down into glucose. But you get some fibre so that’s good for your butt.

Depending on your body’s unique signature will depend on how it uses glucose for fuel versus store fat. I have enough stored fat to run a star system for a week and I use my glucose so efficiently that I don’t need to often use the stored fat. All the protein I eat is happily converted to muscle.

And I’m pretty much a sugar addict because I use it to modify my mood.

If I believed in magic, I’d say I was cursed.

She-Hulk and Spider-man. Would that be a fun movie? Let’s try Yellowknife.

Yes, I did not go to yoga last night. Probably a good idea because a bit later I felt ever so slightly feverish. I did lie down because I have a rule that if you aren’t well enough for yoga, you are sufficiently unwell to need a nap.

Trying to feel better today, but clearly not 100%. The proof is that I got out the door without my laptop for the first time in what, 15 years? Every Sunday I sit in a coffee shop while my wife sings her church gig. I was so surprised I checked to make sure I still had my pants on.

I hope to clear my mind today so that I can focus on the high priority items for next week including trying to get rid of the carbohydrates in the diet.

You’ll have to excuse my profound pessimism.

Here is an excellent collection of Spider-man bad guys. Let’s go to Whitehorse for a change.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 69
Wonder Woman was excellent. In case you haven’t seen the film, I will say no more.

I find hanging from the chin up bar and letting my back lengthen and the muscles inbetween my ribs open up feels good.

Battle ropes. If you have the posture right you can really work out with these babies and not use your back much at all.

But, food. Pah. Literally worrying about diet triggers depressive thoughts. I’m going to have to go after the trauma behind that because the self-sabotage is real and it does not help.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 68

I was always kind of partial to Dr. Octopus. Let’s go to Halifax for fun.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 68
And the hits keep coming. I had a sick day yesterday, but it wasn’t my sick day. It was the 9-year-old’s. Poor thing. At least I got to catch up on the current season of Arrow.

And the weather was just terrible. I wouldn’t have ridden my bike anyway.

Today I went to the gym and did what I thought was a so-so workout. I am still being super conscious of the lower back so I did some stretches and used the roller.

At the end of the workout I sat on the bench in the change room and realized that I was winded from the workout. Either I did more of a workout than I thought or I was more tired than I thought starting.

The Shocker appears in the new Spider-man film. This is from the cover of his first appearance. I saw a Toronto news story where people helped special needs kids out of a bus that had been knocked over. Good show!

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 67
It’s going to be one of those days. Barfing child at home. Raining like crazy. The Weather app said “light rain”; I wonder what “heavy rain” looks like to the app.

I’m going to celebrate a success. Last night my energy level after I rode home (and sat in front of a fan for a few minutes) was at a level that I felt was normal for me. I.e. I could do chores, help with family stuff, etc. without feeling totally slammed. It was a nice change and I want to remember what it felt like so I don’t forget what my normal feels like.

But, soon I have to head home and look after a sick child. So much for the gym today.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 66

One of the key reasons I liked Spider-man as a kid was the humour. It’s 23° in Vancouver, but only 16° in Victoria. Suspicious.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 66
I am about to go to yoga class. I had some fuel in my mental gas tank this morning but it seems to have turned to vapour.

The trainer session yesterday proved helpful in releasing the lower back. I am still being super conscious of how I bend. It’s middle range bending that pisses it off.

Today I have to find a creative way to bypass the 2 PM Sugar Attack. It’s a tough nut to crack in the assembly of long term weight control. To underestimate the sheer power of the 2 PM Sugar Attack is akin to underestimating the President of the United States’ ability to offend.

Spider-man and the X-Men. I have that comic. The weather holds in Vancouver, at least for today.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 65
It’s bending. I don’t bend. Bending is for wonderful fronds in scenic gardens maintained by nimble woodland people.

Today I have to see the trainer but the back is going to need to be watched like a hawk.

I also have to recover from the drinks at the office event that was required to attend for a variety of reasons. Obviously I wasn’t required to drink beer and eat Asian appys.

Focus focus focus. Oh look a little piece of fluff in the air. And a kitty and isn’t the RSS feed nice and argh.

I’m wondering the Marvel movie universe if we’ll see Spider-man and Dr. Strange. Take a look at my new Computational Fluency post.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 64
Soon I go to the gym and test out the low back. The trick is to activate everything but the lower back. Think think think think.

Honestly, it’s not bad, but another deterrent is, well, deterring.

Food. Today. Think less about it and eat more salad and meat. I’m stocked up on meat. Of course, there’s a drinks after work event which, to skip, would be no good. (Too long and boring a story to tell here.)

My bike gears need adjusting. I need to take one of those basis bike maintenance seminars.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 63

The new Spider-man movie is coming in July. Captain Britain I’m sure is not in it. Time to go to Bonavista.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 63
Important Safety Tip: Don’t do a Bulgarian bag workout, balance-on-a-Bosu tricep exercises, battle ropes and then later ride 9 km home followed by, without hesitation or rest, snatching a pile of laundry off the floor.

Ouch. Low back. Cue the whining and moaning.

As of today, it’s settling down nicely and I hope to go to yoga later to see if I can stretch out (carefully) the injury.

What a noob. Such a rookie error and of course you eat when you are distressed or in pain. And when visiting friends the extra effort to ask them nicely to hold the carbs, etc., goes out the window.

My diet’s gone out the window many times this phase. I’ll have to prove to myself I can manage my mind enough to go on track and stay there, even if it’s only for a couple of days.

This is my last Wonder Woman obsessive image. New 52 look. DC Rebirth Look. And Gal Gadot. I want to read my comic book collection near The Thousand Islands.

Mutant Diet Phase 3 Day 61
The time has come for me to realize that the amount of stuff I’m doing is a lot.

However, the overhead of ditching stuff is considerable. Which I think is the primary reason that people don’t dump commitments even when they’re clearly labelled: “These are Commitments You Should Not Have Made you Dumb F**k”.

Because too much stuff to do leads to less sleep and less time to prepare food.

And chocolate. The neural stress reducer of choice.

    So there.
