    I never thought that the diet part would be harder than the fitness part. I’m taking today off fitness only because I am so tired. But I am feeling bad when I’m not at the gym, on the bike or at a yoga class. Speaking of which, yoga yesterday was super hard simply because I was feeling like a lead ball. The bicycle is off because of rain.

    The head game is the problem with diet. You need A LOT of time to make sure you are able to plan and prepare food. When the work and the non-work commitments “eat” into your time, the result is plain to see in my scan of my post below.

    Including hard to control cravings — whamo — it’s mistake time.

    I’m left feeling not so much sore but rather with an overall fatigue from yesterday’s personal trainer session. We were able to work out for the full hour without having to fix leg muscles or anything. Battle ropes, deadlifts, triceps work while on an overturned bosu ball … lots of good stuff.

    Today is a yoga day which seems just about right. I can now, while standing, use abs to pull up the chronically tight hip flexor muscle. I would like to convince it to stop being permanently clenched.

    I am hoping to ride my bike home because yesterday was a rain day and I didn’t want to deal with it on the way home after being soaked in the morning.

    Must dash. The to-do list is growing.

    No rest for the wicked. In seven minutes I head to the trainer.

    I rode today and made the assumption that I could actually dodge rain clouds. The rain clouds had other ideas. Like raining on Hornby Street.

    Food control is better but is not the strict goal I want. However, I saw a sign that said having more muscle simply being there burned fat. My shoulders are tight in today’s dress shirt which was the big boy shirt I had to buy a few months ago not to fit my gut, but my shoulders.

    Five minutes to workout time. Time to clench the abs.

    Yesterday was a great day with a large family event with out of town guests and a trip to Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company. Of course, well, bread. Sheesh.

    But it was celebration. It was a glorious sunny day.

    This morning was an interesting ride. On Mondays my back pack is really heavy with food supplies for the week as well as changes of clothing and fresh gym clothes.

    This job ain’t done until the fat boy says so.

    There’s a formula you should know. In a situation where mental and physical fatigue is present, willpower is rarely greater than cravings.

    It really doesn’t matter how much you coach yourself in advance, if you are fried mentally/physically and then presented with bad food choices – especially when good food choices are unavailable, inconvenient or expensive – the odds are against you.

    A further curse is if you mentally beat up on yourself for poorer choices, you will wear yourself out and make it easier to make poor choices in the future.

    Did I mention I really hate this conundrum?

    For a while in the 70s, Wonder Woman was not superpowered and took on an Emma Peel style. One day when I have lots of time, I’d like to visit all the Gulf Islands.

    It’s Friday and I’m behind on so many things.

    Yesterday dinner was a classic disrupted schedule that led me to eat away from home and the wrong things. It’s time to make fewer of the same-old, same-old mistakes.

    The muscles are all sore. No injuries. I still have to head to the gym to complete the workout I did not complete yesterday. I just could not get to the Bulgarian bags.

    And this will be the 5th day in a row I’ve ridden 12.3 km. I do feel the impact of this on the body fat. A pity that the bad carbs keep creeping in.

    I am a few minutes from riding home on the bike. Don’t say it too loudly, my legs might hear you.

    The trip to the gym trying to do the mountain of homework I have is freaking daunting. I focused on kettle bells. But I warmed up with battle ropes and sadly the roller on my IT bands. Yeeeeeow.

    Updated Routine

    1. Pendulums with blue kettle bell
    2. Kb swing now using RED for 15 reps x 3
    3. 1-arm Kb swing with yellow/purple, 15 reps x 2 each side
    4. Farmers carry – RED
    5. Sumo squat and bicep curl – Yellow, 15 reps x 2
    6. Kb jump jacks – blue x 10 (when foot is better)
    7. Burpees with Kb – Purple 10 reps x 2
    8. Squat and press – yellow, 10 x 2

    If time now switch into Bulgarian bag (Red):

    1. Swing – upgraded to the grey bag
    2. Chop – this is pivoting on your back foot and bringing the bag up on one side – 10 on each side
    3. Squat and press
    4. Spin – green

    TRX Rip Trainer: – form before speed

    1. Bat swing
      1. Pivot on back foot
      2. Underhand grip with power hand and overhand grip with the other
    2. Rowing / Punting
      • . A lunge position
      1. Keep the stick upright the whole time
      1. Bat swing facing forward
        • . Staggered stance, if power hand is R, L foot is forward
      1. Come up on toe when swinging forward
      2. 15 x per side

       

      1. Walk outs and push up – 10×2
      2. Ball slams – use 25lb black floor ball, 10 x 2
      3. Ball toss over shoulder – 25lb black floor ball, throw over 10x

      Deadlift Key Points:

      • Keep shoulders back
      • Engage core
      • Slight bend in knees, main bend from hips – should feel slight hamstring stretch at bottom
      • Stand straight at top and bring hips forward – squeeze glutes
      • Should not feel in low back – maybe slightly in the muscles

      Exercises:

      • With Red Kettle bell x 10 reps
      • In squat rack with 2x35lb plates for 8 reps

    My legs are freaking killing me. I’m sitting very still right now but fear standing.

    I worked with the personal trainer yesterday and realized that walking up the stairs to the gym that my quads, glutes and hamstrings were call locked up. She used the elbow-the-guy-until-he-confesses-from-the-pain technique to loosen them up so that the wonderful deadlifts would work.

    Of course I’m riding the bike because the weather is nice and yes, this morning my legs said, ‘Er, you can gear down that this hill because I’m screaming.”

    Food wise there was a big improvement yesterday, but sustaining it is the challenge.

    Yoga at lunch time. I’m really not sure how that’s going to go.

    Finally all the evil tempting food products are gone from the apartment.

    June 23 is the end date. Today is May 23, my 19th wedding anniversary.

    I have little time to make a difference. I think part of my mental well-being hinges on being able to break this carb/sugar compulsion.

    Techniques? I have to stay in my conscious mind and ask nicely not to think of the foods I broke up with.

    I have a personal trainer session today. Yoga was last night and the bike ride has made me sore. I see ibuprofen in my future.

    Breaking up is hard to do. Especially when the offending foods are still in your apartment.

    So the battle continues but I don’t care. This has to happen as I’m about a month from the end of Phase 3, which is going to be an embarrassing debacle if I don’t put my ____ in a pile.

    How’s this for a nightmare? I dreamt I was Robert Downy Jr, as Tony Stark. No a bad start but I was recovering from massive heart surgery with scars at my neck, the middle of the chest and the groin.

    Gasp. Despite that, sugar and carbs are still winning.

    Tomorrow will be better. My inner aggressive guy is starting to warm up.
