    This image makes me wonder how much I’m fighting myself. I’ve been thinking about Calgary a lot.

    It was a successful if mysterious Phase 10b.

    Why mysterious? If you look at the chart below, there’s an anomaly between the end of Phase 10a and the start of Phase 10b. How did I lose weight when there was a week’s vacation during which time I ate like a king?

    Furthermore, the diet charts between Phase10a and Phase 10b show no distinct change in diet that would account for the extra efficiency.

    All the theories I’ve pondered are not satisfying.

    So, Phase 11 starts September 9. I am hoping to simply plug away at this. I was to be 250 pounds and deadlift 250 pounds. I am current 21 pounds away from the first goal and 70 pounds from the second.

    New tip: if spouses are on their own, separate diet plan, it’s easier to keep yours. This is because if you deviate from your diet, you want company. But it’s really bad form to bring home ice cream or some such thing when someone else is struggling. This usually takes the fun out of the treat so it’s easier to skip it altogether.

    Today I see the trainer for a workout. I am not at home to Mr. Injury.

    She-Hulk was announced for Disney streaming service. I was thinking of avoiding it until now. Bathurst is not a street in Toronto, necessarily.

    Medical professionals have been consulted. More sleep is needed. The sleep deprivation and consequential fatigue explain much. A new magic pill is heading my way. My doctor said I was easy to work with because I was on top of everything. My wife pointed out that given the yoga, gym, diet and cycling, he at least has a patient that’s trying to work on the problem.

    I have only a couple of days left on this phase, so I have to stay on track until I do the last weigh-in at lunch tomorrow at noon.

    My workout yesterday proved that small injuries set you back. This will be a discussion to have with the trainer.

    Yesterday was a cheat day. You can tell how much you enjoy a cheat day by how much the taste of what you are eating resonates.

    However, it’s back to super strict until Wednesday when I weigh in for the last time on Phase 10b. I will take a mini break and restart September 9 with Phase 11. It will run into November and – if I can stop with the small injuries – I’ll focus on a combo strength gain, weight loss plan.

    A lot of this now is finding ways to stick with what I know works without completely losing my mind. The key health issue is finding a way to sleep longer and better.

    Yesterday, we moved the big kid to UBC Residence. That was my workout, which was a lot given my triceps and lats were still BAKED from the Thursday morning personal trainer session. (It seems to have settled down this morning.)

    I must be an idiot. I think my trainer could tell me “do another 47 of these heavy things” and I’d be dumb enough to try and then say afterwards that it was just a flesh wound.

    During this mini-move, I caught a glimpse of myself in a reflection of a glass door and I did not look the same. But in a good way. I actually had a good thought about my appearance. The negative nelly voices did not like to hear that and they found a way to get even later.

    I want to do yoga tonight to take an inventory of my body’s sore parts.

    With the DC shows ramping up, some Atom and Wonder Woman was called for. Jimmy Kimmel, apparently, is joking about Dildo, NL.

    Truly it’s a coffee and muffin kind of day. Cloudy. Rainy. And my arms are on fucking fire. OMG. I am not sure what my trainer had me do exactly, but it started yesterday with sore triceps. Now my arms feel like two dead logs. I was unable to swiftly flip the bird at a driver trying to run me over.

    So today might be an involuntary rest day from the gym. Also, the last time I tried anything the day following a trainer session, I hurt myself.

    I asked the trainer if my body weight numbers were down and he said yes. I wasn’t feeling strong enough to review the actual values. That will happen on Wednesday next week when this mini phase ends.

    I needed a Deadpool bit of silly. Someone in Whitecourt had three grizzlies in their backyard.

    Personal trainer was this morning. It was tougher because I had a bad night. The weak muscles between the shoulder blades are here to haunt me. The trainer discovered that I’ve been compensating with triceps. So he force me to do exercises slower with activation of the shoulder blades (i.e. squeezing them together) before doing the rest of the exercise. Who knew such a small spot could make such a difference. Without these working properly, I won’t get too far with the deadlift.

    In the meantime I’m baffled by my diet. I am stupid hungry and I’ve added calories but at the end of the night I was still feeling as hungry as if I’d been at the 2000 calorie level.

    Confusingly, I feel like I’m losing weight faster. The trainer weighed me and all I asked was “I’m down in weight, right?” He said yes.

    This is enough motivation to stay with the process for another week. Then I’ll have the real numbers and try to connect measurements to sensations.

    Despite my shocking indiscretions with chocolate my calorie burn is still 1670 more than intake. Now, we all know that if you work out on a treadmill and register 500 calories, that doesn’t mean you can have a cookie.

    However, I’m starting to feel like I’m 12 years old and wearing my father’s clothes. Whether this shows up on the scale or not is a different matter. That measurement is scheduled for tomorrow. I saw the chiropractor this morning who managed to (it felt like) move my right shoulder about a foot away from my ear. A blessed relief.

    The right shoulder blade area feels like scar tissue. It has for years and years. But I have no recollection of how the heck it got that way.

    Today I’m better rested but not recovered from the shoulder. I have a chiropractor appointment tomorrow. I need to do so strength training today, but I won’t rely on that bunged-up area.

    The presence of chocolate almonds is due to pain and fatigue. I have to figure out another way to mitigate that but it was terrible yesterday.

    But, I still feel like I’m dropping weight. I was also slightly hungry going to bed, which is always encouraging.
