    Allergies and food intolerances. I retain water (always have) when I have allergic reactions. Wheat, dairy, sugar, corn and a list of others were identified as food intolerances in 1995 by an allergist. (All the foods I like, I might add.) Back then I was recommended to pursue a diet of game meat (moose & squirrel) and pine nuts.

    It’s tempting to try. Maybe add bison. Just to see the look on the personal trainer’s face.

    Today is a trainer session and I bailed on being weighed last week but I feel I should face the music today. But I know that I’m not moving the lard off at any meaningful rate.

    The crux of this are carbs and sugars. Basically I can’t have any if I want to have a 2-pound-a-week weight loss.

    On the 28th, in two week, but with a trip to Toronto in the middle, I will have been at this a year.

    There’s going to be a Phase 3 in which I hope the weather will facilitate more steps and km on the bicycle.

    There was a news article about a campus removing scales from a university’s gym because one’s weight is not a complete indicator of health. This doesn’t make sense to me because people don’t look over a fellow gym-goer’s shoulder while he or she is weighing.

    For the record there is very little talking in the men’s change room and only between people who actually know each other. Between strangers … not much. Even in (so I’m told) the more loquacious women’s locker rooms, I really doubt that anyone looks at another woman on the scale and says “Holy shit you’re 132 pounds? You look great in that Lululemon sport bra and pants even though at 5-foot-1 you’re clearly in the lardy lardy stage.”

    In the change room I’m in, all I want is the guys who weigh themselves is to put a damn towel on because I really don’t want to see anyone’s junk if I can avoid it.

    I am so not apologizing or making excuses for drinking beer & eating steak and Doritos last night. I was medicating my face which still hurts. And looks worse but feels better.

    What is truly informative is how mental state, when made worse by physical pain, steals your resolve to achieve difficult things. In my case when the workload goes up, discomfort in unrelated areas increase or worry increases, the mental energy to keep eating and exercising drops dramatically.

    So, today’s job is to go back to baseline lo-to-no carb eating and see if I can right the wobbly ship. It’s important not to blow my nose too hard.

    So yesterday, at the gym, I nearly broke my face with a 25-pound medicine ball.

    Seriously. The last part of my workout an exercise in which you raise a NON bouncing ball over your head and slam it into the floor. However, the ball I selected bounced back.

    I have bruised bridge of my nose. I am very lucky to have not broken anything. I have a headache in the middle of my face.

    Today I have to try to improve my attitude towards my own self. I don’t have time for this kind of stupid mistake.

    I saw Logan last night and I’m not raving the way the critics have. It needs time to settle.

    Someone in my family leaves from Vancouver for Europe so in honour, here’s the Justice League Europe.

    Today I send a child off on a cool trip overseas. If I wasn’t so jealous I might be nervous.

    Yesterday’s yoga class helped recover from a powerful workout on Tuesday. I still feel like I’m making progress despite the diet not being really strict enough.

    Here’s the revised workout I can try tomorrow.

    Updated Workout

    1. Pendulums with blue kettle bell
    2. Kb swing now using RED for 15 reps x 3
    3. 1-arm Kb swing with yellow, 15 reps x 2 each side
    4. Farmers carry – RED
    5. Sumo squat and bicep curl – blue, 15 reps x 2
    6. Kb jump jacks – blue x 10 (when foot is better)
    7. Burpees with Kb – yellow 10 reps x 2
    8. Squat and press – yellow, 10 x 2

    If time, and foot is ok, now switch into Bulgarian bag (Red):

    1. Swing
    2. Chop – this is pivoting on your back foot and bringing the bag up on one side – 10 on each side
    3. Squat and press
    1. Walk outs and push up – 10×2
    2. Ball slams – use 25lb black floor ball, 10 x 2

    The personal trainer session yesterday was intense and I was for two of the kettle bell exercises using the 80-pound red kettle bells. I also finally figured out what I was doing wrong with the Bulgarian Bag overhead swings. I still need to make the hip movement align with the arms but it was a break-through.

    The strange foot injury was painful yesterday, but this morning seems to have relented. I will test it (carefully) in yoga class today.

    For sanity reasons I did not weigh in because I knew that wheat-and-dairy reactions were in play. These never lead to reasonable numbers on the scale.

    I managed to make bacon-and-eggs because I found 15 minutes to buy milk. Is the insane schedule lightening?

    The Justice League movie seems to be without a Green Lantern. Maybe they’ll introduce this new girl with a power ring. The weather still sucks in Vancouver.

    The Vancouver School Board Choral Festival had about 400 kids. It was loud. My wife’s choirs did well. I’m now deaf as when the kids all got talking in the cafeteria and John Oliver Secondary … gasp.

    And the diet went sideways. Not enough time. I was trying to prepare scrambled eggs and the milk was off. And no time to buy more.

    Plus this mystery ankle is not helping. I have a trainer session today. I am not weighing in but rather sticking to the fitness piece.

    I knew this week would be crazy so there’s no point whining about it.

    Hi. Welcome to the busy week. A child goes off on a 2-week trip. Multiple music performances. Volunteer board meetings. Oh, yeah, and a real day job I should be paying attention to. A lot.

    Oh, wait. This is a fitness blog. I hurt my ankle on the weekend somehow and I don’t know what it will let me do. I must remember to smack myself stupid.

    I did see a Deadpool teaser that was really funny. Look for the subtle and not so subtle Logan references.

    Oh yeah. Somehow I have only 20 days left in this Phase.
