  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 5

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 5

We jump to Earth 30. DC Comics is unclear on some of the Earth 20s. Anyway, this is where Superman’s ship landed in Soviet Russia. It’s 29° C in the British Virgin Islands today.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 5
Yesterday had some classic challenges. I was asked to go for lunch by a friend. My legs were, and still are, freaking sore from Tuesday. So I chose the lunch place so I could buy something and dodge the rice (but it was expensive). I did not do the gym because honestly I could barely walk.

Today I will do a gym visit that entails gentle stretching and upper body work. I am not going to risk a full on injury.

The cravings seem reasonable. There’s too much wine in the picture, which will likely prevent me from being in that magic ketogenic state. But, who cares? I gave up on the scale and I’m looking to build strength and take body shape changes as they come. I can feel some fat loss around the middle so I know the removal of refined carbs is working.

Plus it’s week 1 for goodness sake. I am not looking for high speed rail. I’m looking to avoid derailment.

Earth 26 is decidedly different. They also seem to skip 24 and 25. Suriname

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 4
My legs are still fried from the new workout on Tuesday. I did yoga yesterday and the standing poses were particularly challenging. It’s not an injury, however. I just need more recovery time before trying the new exercises again. I have to go through past workouts and see what kind of core work I can do without needing to stress out the legs.

Diet-wise, the cravings for the high sugar, high refined carbs are not as strong as in the past. I’m unsure what the difference is. Perhaps mentally I know that this is the long game I’m playing and patience just has to be there. And it’s early in the phase.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 3

Earth 23 is a primarily African American looking variation. The Bahamas is 22° and partly cloudy.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 3
My inner thighs feel like pastrami rolls. Kind of all chewed up.

This is a case where I received what I asked for. I wanted a new intense 30-minute workout that I could do myself. My Trainer tested it on my yesterday.

    Oi.

The workout details are shown below and sadly they just doesn’t look that bad when written down.

Today’s yoga class should be slooooooow.

New Routine – (high intensity interval training HIIT)

40 second work rounds with 30 second break – alternate between two exercises
6 exercises back to back then a longer 1-2 minute break.

    1. Kettle Bell Burpees – purple kb – around 7 burpees
    2. Kettle Bell mountain climbers – roughly 30 knee ups
    3. Step ups on bench or plyo box – about 15 per leg
    4. Slams – 20 lb wall ball (not bouncy!) about 10 reps
    5. Walk outs – about 5 with push ups
    6. Kettle Bell swings – green kb – roughly 17 reps

Watch for form:
On burpees – before standing up pick your chest up and sit your butt back

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 2

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 2

Earth 22 “Kingdom Come” provides us a view of what happens when the core superheroes hit retirement age. I suggest a retirement home in Saint Lucia.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 2
Day 1 was problem free. I suspect that the warm up week, which was imperfect, let me realize when the weak points in the day would come. 2 PM arriving with the snack attack and the peanut butter was ready. I had a 6 PM meeting and I had food before and used coffee to stave off snack attacks. I had some almonds (au naturel) and bacon to avoid a late night snack attack.

I did a semi-decent workout at the gym and it was a pleasure to finally have civilized enough weather to walk home. Today I see the trainer and must have a better list of what my self-paced workouts should be like.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 1

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 1

Earth 21 reminds me of The Incredibles. Speaking of our earth, here’s a breakfast place in Victoria.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 1
    O boy. Here we go.

On the weekend my mind convinced me that global warming had destroyed all the wheat and chocolate in the world and I had to eat it all.

On the good side, the yoga class last night was much better that the week before if still kind of painful. My hamstrings and quads were not wanting to move.

Last week was my warm up week and I was in the gym or yoga class 6 out of 7 days. I feel ready to tackle this. The real challenges are going to ultra low carbs. I have the peanut butter ready. I have enough meat to feed a lion and salads are ready. The times I weaken are when I get tired.

Let’s see what we can do!

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Planning Some More

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Planning Some More

Earth 20 is a post WWII world. I’m working on a redesign of sites like Travel In BC.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Planning Some More
The official dates for Phase 6 will be Mon Jan 15 to Fri Mar 16. This is two days shy of 9 weeks and stops when March Break starts.

I’m sore all over from yoga and the gym and the diet showed me that I’m weak-willed and need to sleep more.

Yesterday I decided to stop judging myself based on my appearance.

I was to separate self-judgment from the process of diet/fitness. For example, eating a brownie means I ate a brownie (or two). This behaviour is not a symbol of my ongoing stupidity and uselessness.

The reason for setting aside self-judgement is that there’s no up-side to hating yourself for not being the weight or shape you want. I’ve heard people who used hitting as part of discipline for their kids justify it by saying, “it builds character.” Or saying “I wouldn’t be the person I am today if my Dad hadn’t whupped my ass now and then.”

If you rail at yourself for being somehow physically wrong, does this build character? It certainly doesn’t help you lose weight or run faster. I think you can argue that, at best, you are wasting time and, at worst, you might be self-sabotaging.

So, I’m committing to not judging myself and trying to stay focused on the process of keeping the cardiologist interested in other people.

    Mutant Diet Phase 6 Planning

Earth 19 is a world where the British Monarchy still exists.

    Mutant Diet Phase 6 Planning
Phase 6 is coming. I started this mess on Mar 22, 2016. See robertfordfiction.com/mary-casey-large-orange-moose/

To say this hasn’t gone according to plan is an understatement.

However, I did a yoga class last night after three weeks of travel and self-indulgence, the pain was incredible. You can’t take three weeks off. Not at age 55 anyway. Maybe age 25.

But am I doing anything differently? Last phase I did the bison and removed other foods but I realized that the cost-benefit wasn’t there. When I remove refined carbohydrates, my allergies to beef and chicken are greatly reduced. I noticed an improvement, but not enough to justify the cost.

I also had a screaming fit at my last weigh-in. My personal trainer and I determined we’re just going to focus on strength and overall fitness and ignore the scale. I’ll weigh in at the end of this phase just to see what the 2-year-mark looks like. But I want to see how strong I can make myself.

Phase 6 will start next Monday January 15 and end on March 16 or March 23. (I have to figure out what we’re doing for March Break.) This week will be spent trying to wean myself off refined carbohydrates. There’s still a fair amount of festive food in the house and I’ll be trying to return to a meat and vegetable diet.

During the previous phases, I was using a cheat day method. I think I will try to increase the distance between cheat days and try to find a solution to the 2 PM snack attack.

    We shall see.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 5 Finale

    Mutant Diet Phase 5 Finale

Earth 18 is a world stuck in the 19th century. Like my diet. Next week we go to Toronto.

    Mutant Diet Phase 5 Finale
In the finale of a phase I guess I’m not supposed to tell you I gained weight, lost my temper, came quite close to putting my fist through a wall and generally swore enough to make members of the British Special Air Services blush.

The level of violent feeling was fueled by the fact that I feel lighter but none of the metrics reflected it. The unfairness is beyond description.

Apparently, however, I’m strong. I can easily lift medium sized women.

More annoyingly there’s no direct evidence that the non beef and chicken approach helped. I did feel the difference in terms of allergies, i.e. less inflammation. But was it enough to be worth the money?

So, I retreat and think. I made an appointment with my GP for next week and am looking at counselling for stress/anxiety, appointments pending.

In January the longer Phase 6 will start and I will not weigh until the end of March. The scale comes with adult frustration and childhood trauma. Time to mostly dispense with it.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 5 Day 30

Mutant Diet Phase 5 Day 30

Earth 13 a world where it’s entirely supernatural. Even Superman. Kenora is near Lake-of-the-Woods Ontario, which is magical.

Mutant Diet Phase 5 Day 30
Last day of Phase 5. I see the trainer and weigh in. Tomorrow I’ll reveal the results and plans for Q1 2018.

I’ve had a lot of people in this journey tell me that diet is a bad word. (Besides, is it a noun, verb or pejorative term?) They want me to consider the word lifestyle instead. This doesn’t sit well with me because I don’t think I could maintain this as a lifestyle.

However, I see the diet/fitness process as the Correction Diet with the long term food and fitness choices being the lifestyle.

I’d really like to be closer to the long term state as opposed to this battle I’ve been in since March 2016.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 5 Day 29

Mutant Diet Phase 5 Day 29

Earth 12 is a near future world where things don’t go so well. I have an urge to hide in a Bed and Breakfast in Ontario.

Mutant Diet Phase 5 Day 29
Oh, yeah. I’m supposed to be on a diet. I see the personal trainer for a weigh-in tomorrow. My goal for today is to reset my innards after a too indulgent weekend.

Don’t try to diet if you have any sort of social life after the first week of December. You should go into Damage Control mode.

However, I’ve asked myself to stay strict today to see if I can drop any allergy water before weighing in tomorrow.

2018 will be most interesting because last night at yoga, which was a tough class, I did not have any hernia related fear. I could push the boundaries and feel supported in the abdomen. That was a “Whoa. Cool.” feeling.
