Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 59

The Justice Society is from Earth 2. Winnipeg. -6 and light snow.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 59
The cake was good yesterday. Today I saw the massage therapist who managed to make my hip feel like it was about a foot away from my body without actually working directly on it. My quads and IT band are screwy.

I can’t wait until yoga later. I paid for the class in advance; I’m going.

I need to reign back the food without invoking the rebellious response. That’s the one where you say, “this never works so why try?”

    It’s a trap.

More Earth 2. Let’s got to Toronto the home of carbon tax insanity.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 58
It’s taking time to recover from the frustration of the doctor’s visit. Yesterday I did 2/3 of the high intensity workout. I probably could have plugged through all of it, but today I see the trainer and I didn’t want to be healing up.

I bought weight lifting gloves because the calluses on my hands are really starting to bug me. I don’t want to drop a weight for that.

Today is my daughter’s birthday. Indian food and cake. I’ll have to pull out the diet stops in the coming days.

More Earth 2. Let’s try Saint Andrews New Brunswick.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 57
It’s Monday and the diet should be restarting yet again but I realized that I have a beer night tonight and I could not eat my normal breakfast due to timing around a doctor’s appointment. Even better tomorrow is my daughter’s birthday and you know what that means … CAKE.

The new goal: disaster management. I need to keep at the gym.

You observant people will have noticed I skipped an entry. I needed a break. On Saturday I had a very physically challenging AM workout and due to other scheduling problems, my wife and I could not go to yoga. So I declared it a rest day.

What did the doctor say? Well my BP number is not perfect but it’s OK. But the stress test results indicated that they cut it short because my top BP number got too high. Apparently if I lost weight, that would help. Very frustrating when I have a mountain of evidence that says I should have lost weight. When the only solution to the problem is to keep trying, it’s depressing.

I switch attention to Earth 2 that seemed to have monster Supermen. My next place for data cleanup is Ucluelet.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 55
Holy frying pan. I am so screwed on diet. Arrrrghhh.

I am embarrassed to say that yesterday had all the key elements. Toast, potatoes, pizza, beer and a few Halloween candies.

But the workouts. On Friday, I did my full high intensity workouts with the dual 70 pound kettle bell burpees at the end. Normally I do 2/3 of the workout. This morning though, I wasn’t fully recovered and it was a lame weight lifting workout. I did touch on most exercises but the weight was less and fewer sets and reps. Just plain tired and sore.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 54

Wolverine fighting a possessed Spider-man. I want to go to the beach in Vancouver, despite the rain.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 54
Here we go again with leftover Halloween candy. It was a bit of a bust yesterday I documented but I’m not going to scan it.

I ate a big breakfast today because I was not prepared and I am not getting enough sleep. I am trying to compensate by eating.

The workouts are weird because as I make them harder (more sets, more reps, more weight) I seem to recover from them faster. I’m supposed to hit a plateau where I can’t go up in weight much. I have hit a plateau oddly on lat pulldowns. I’m not sure what’s happening there.

The trainer said this is unusual but what I suspect may be the difference is that I’m actually doing the homework. I suspect trainers don’t see much progress if the client is only going once a week to the gym.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 53

Spider-man and Black Widow! Let’s visit Fort Frances in Ontario.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 53
Well it was Halloween and when the peanut butter cups come out, well, chomp chomp chomp.

This morning I found two and they are on my desk just looking at me. Bastards.

But my pants feel looser and my eyes and mind thinks I’m fatter. When I wrote in my journal this morning I was wondering if I can apply the same standard of reasonableness to myself that I apply to other people. I feel like my brain is saying, “but I like being miserable to you.”

Oh well, it’s November. I basically have a month for this phase. How lean and how strong can I become in that time?

  • Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 52

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 52

Spider-man versus Man-Thing. We found a good swamp in Qualicum Beach last summer.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 52
My restart died last night in the process of making brownies for a child’s Halloween party.

    Sigh.

However, I increased weights in bench press and lat row again and the trainer says she doesn’t have another client who increases weights this fast. I am assuming I catch up to what a natural level of strength for my body is at some point. It’s not like I’m bench pressing anything impressive. Another oddity is that my body is learning to recover from the workouts faster.

The goal today is to steal as many peanut butter cups from children as possible. I have to save them from the candy.

Spider-man versus Frankenstein’s Monster just in time for Halloween. Check out these ghost stories from Victoria.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 51
I think I managed to restart this thing.

The diet numbers don’t show it, but I feel like I dieted better yesterday. The later snacks were protein-based and the sense that I managed not to reach for wine and late night chocolate made me feel a little more in control.

Today I see the trainer. All workouts now activate the new muscles. I often throughout the day try to activate the lats and shoulders to pull them back, away from the traditional hunched over the keyboard position.

And it’s day 51. I need November to really count for something in this phase.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 50

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 50

I declare it Spider-Man team up week. I have to send a letter to a friend in St. John’s NL.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 50
It’s 11 AM and do you know where your carbs are? It’s reset day and I’m working to not screw this up. It’s soon to be Halloween (also known as Peanut Butter Cup Day) and we know what happens then.

I feel a little better today from this cold and I’m willing to tackle the high intensity workout. I have to start with step ups and Overhead slams with the 30 pound ball. I have a policy if last time I did it, if I skipped one, I have to start with that one.

I did yoga yesterday and it was tough. I had some tight muscles from the Saturday workout, even though it was not complete. Why is it with yoga after all these years, I just also feel like a beginner?

  • Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 49

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 49

Here’s another spooky Wonder Woman cover. I remember years ago going to Port Alberni and they had an entire road in the woods lined with Jack-O-Lanterns.

Mutant Diet Phase 8 Day 49
This is even more of a placeholder entry. I’m feeling a bit more healthy than yesterday and I’m going to attempt yoga tonight. The food control is in the motto, “try to restrain yourself”. I am writing this while stuck in Oakridge Mall waiting for a child to finish practice. I hate malls. I used to get to hang out on Main Street. It was more colourful. And much better food choices.

I am put off kilter by a bogus Oracle query that’s making me mental.

Diet/fitness is connected to everything. You can’t just treat it as a distinct thing.
