    I was reminded of a mindfulness exercise in which you pay closer attention to what you’re eating when you eat it. This would be regardless of what rubbish choice you’ve made. For example if you have gone to the Candy Zone or the Pizza-and-beer Zone you should at least slow down and enjoy the dietary mistake.

    I want to this weekend look to plan ahead a bit better (another form of mindfulness) and also slow down and think about what I’m eating.

    Of course writing this post has made me hungry and I have a meeting 10 minutes.

    What would help? Sleep. I did however manage to succeed at yoga yesterday and activated the immune system while doing the class. I heated up in the right way and imagined my system BBQ’ing the nasty germs.

    If I could master a nominal level of self-control with food today, that would be a help.

    I have to move my concentration one task at a time. For example, I tend to waste time finding a cool comic book image. Can I just do it fast today? Let’s see.

    No no no. I’m not annoyed with myself to the point of wanting to poke myself in the eye with a dirty stick. Nope. I want to use a HOT dirty stick.

    This may be the low-grade cold speaking. I sat yesterday in a theatre watching a dance competition and despite there being a network, I was unable to do much. So, the feeling of being behind is huge.

    Thus, I can’t linger here. Time to flee.

    This is definitely going to be a dumb day. I am on parent duty taking a child to dance competitions which involves a lot of sitting around and not working or working out. However, a scratchy throat now clearly not related to pollen is trying to move in. Great. And the weather still has a high suckage factor.

    If there was ever a time to take everything 5 minutes at a time, it’s now.

    So, let’s talk about going on track. I managed to prep food so that there’s lots of protein and salad at hand so I have no excuses.

    Will power is a scarce resource and, much like common sense, should be preserved and fostered.

    OK, let’s talk mental health in the morning. Mornings are freaking brutal for me and I hate it. I have to expend all sorts of effort making sure I don’t lash out at myself or others. However, at time of writing, I’m feeling more normal and I can reach to Monty Python for inspiration.

    Vicar: It’s about this letter you sent me regarding my insurance claim.

    Devious: Oh, yeah, yeah – well, you see, it’s just that we’re not, as yet, totally satisfied with the grounds of your claim.

    Vicar: But it says something about filling my mouth in with cement.

    Devious: Oh well, that’s just insurance jargon, you know.

    Vicar: But my car was hit by a lorry while standing in the garage and you refuse to pay my claim.

    Devious: (rising and crossing to a filing cabinet) Oh well, Reverend Morrison, in your policy… in your policy…… here we are. It states quite clearly that no claim you make will be paid.

    In my case, in the morning, no thought that enters my head will be valid.

    Back to the mines.

    Ugh. Mild hangover. I’m still capable of fulfilling my chores for a Saturday but yikes. Office parties can be so, er, fluid.

    But man am I ever hosing up the diet part of Phase 3 early. It seems to me that I tend to make a hash of it at the end. Yeek.

    The trip to the gym was more trippy when working out like any other schmoe was Dolph Lundgren (See www.imdb.com/name/nm0000185/) He’s famous for Rocky IV and I presumed he was in town because he’s been an occasional character on Arrow, which is filmed in Vancouver.

    Today I attempt diet damage control.

    It’s more difficult to stay focused. All I can think is, “back to the breathing exercises.” The question will be: can I swiftly create this entry and not diverge from this purpose? I can’t help but think this very lack of staying-on-topic is bleeding over into the dietary issues.

    Working out seems not to be a problem. I was at the gym yesterday and decided to increase all the Bulgarian bag exercises by 1 bag. By the time I walked home, which was more entertaining than usual due to the 420 “protest” on Sunset Beach, I had to lie down.

    Today there’s a work party which will likely bode ill for the diet. Yes, I could just go home and hide but where’s the fun in that?

    Notably I managed to stay focused on writing this piece until now.

    I was talking with my Wednesday noon yoga teacher and she asked if I’d lost weight. It was nice to hear, but I had to say I was rearranging it more than losing it. Especially in the context of the Easter induced chocolate addiction.

    Dang, I wish I hadn’t mentioned it.

    The yoga class, which was 24 hours after a personal trainer session was not the pain fest that it had been the previous week. I was glad of this because I did not need to feel that banged up.

    I hope to do some homework at the gym today; I have new exercises to review. My list is getting long!!

    Updated Routine

    1. Pendulums with blue kettle bell
    2. Kb swing now using RED for 15 reps x 3
    3. 1-arm Kb swing with yellow/purple, 15 reps x 2 each side
    4. Farmers carry – RED
    5. Sumo squat and bicep curl – Yellow, 15 reps x 2
    6. Kb jump jacks – blue x 10 (when foot is better)
    7. Burpees with Kb – Purple 10 reps x 2
    8. Squat and press – yellow, 10 x 2

    If time, and foot is ok, now switch into Bulgarian bag (Red):

    1. Swing – upgraded to the grey bag
    2. Chop – this is pivoting on your back foot and bringing the bag up on one side – 10 on each side
    3. Squat and press
    4. Spin – green

    TRX Rip Trainer: – form before speed

    1. Bat swing
    2. Pivot on back foot
    3. Underhand grip with power hand and overhand grip with the other
    4. Rowing / Punting
    5. A lunge position
    6. Keep the stick upright the whole time
    7. Bat swing facing forward

    So, I’m not really winning at the battle with chocolate so it’s time to figure out how to break the cycle.

    Various options include:

    • Smacking myself upside the head as soon as I think about chocolate (ouch)
    • Having someone else smack me upside the head when I think about chocolate (might be a lot of overhead managing volunteers)
    • In a perverse reversal, maybe I should go smack random people upside the head whenever I think about chocolate (might lead to legal trouble)

    Perhaps I should just ask myself nicely to admire chocolate from afar and say “catch you next major chocolate based festival.”

    I’m wondering if today’s yoga class will be as hard as the last time I did yoga the day after a personal trainer session.
