Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 25

Earth 45 was taken over by a Superdoomsday creature that tried to kill all versions of Superman. I’ve always been curious about Turks and Caicos Islands.

The cheesecake yesterday was pretty damn good if I say so myself. Although the folks who make whipped cream from liquid whipping cream must have some kind of nuclear powered mixmaster to be able to fluff it up in a minute.

I remembered my breakfast and I am trying not to think of the good leftovers in the fridge.

Cravings control. That’s a good mantra for today.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 24

Earth 44 has superheroes, but they are all robots. St. Lucia sounds about right.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 24
How completely mental was I to restart this process? Honestly. A few minutes ago I went and bought cookies for the team I work with because it’s my wife’s birthday and I’m kind of off my nut due to the family critical illness.

More destabilizing is the fact that while I was making a 90000 calorie cheesecake last night, I prepared lo carb food for me for work. I forgot my breakfast. I bought protein on the way to work, but it was wrapped in a bun that I paid for so I fricking ate it.

Yoga class was difficult but worth going because it showed me just how hard meditation can be.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 23

Earth 43 imagines a world where a vampire virus takes over. Martinique has a lot of sunshine to help.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 23
Well, that was a terrible restart. I have a highly emotional situation to blame, but we all know it was my hands that fed my own face.

The exception was doing the gym homework the trainer gave me. That was fairly intense and I’m still feeling it. I’m not sure what fitness to try today.

The diet book I’m reading is an interesting study and seems up to date in that naturally occurring fat is not the enemy, carbs are pretty much optional and anything refined is not helpful.

This means my intended approach is probably right but honestly has not let me drop any significant weight.

His mantra is that you should not have to suffer. I think that’s optimistic.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 22 – The Restart

Earth 42 imagines a world of child-like superheroes. I would like to hide in Guyana

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 22 – The Restart

My last entry was Jan 26 and I’ve been dealing with a family member’s critical illness. Every time I went to the hospital or considered what led to this illness I am inspired to go to the gym.

With the exception of a few of the days, which were travel related, I did go to the gym or do yoga. The benefits just from stress management I think are real.

But there’s no doubt that the presence of distressing things happening around you lead you to the easy-to-access high calorie food.

A book I’m reading “The Diet Fix: Why Diets Fail and How to Make Yours Work” has some interesting points wherein the author debunks some myths, but as far as I can tell, he still has trouble with calories. For example, if there’s no real connection between the calories burned on a treadmill and the ones consumed as food, why is Dr. Freedhoff (the author) still using this measurement?

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 12

Earth 38 imagines a world where 1937 and 1938 Superman and Batman age normally and their offspring take on their roles. Friends of mine are in the Cayman Islands. I barely want to talk to them.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 12
    Dear Diet/Fitness Program,

I know I’m not even two weeks into this but sadly, health matters regarding a family member 4,386 km away have called me away for a few days.

I’m hoping, dear Mutant Diet, you won’t be offended if I allow for modulated stress eating. Plus I have to travel. If I ordered the amount of meat I like to eat from a restaurant or, god forbid, an airline I’d have to take out a loan against Chip Wilson’s house. (www.theglobeandmail.com/real-estate/vancouver/lululemon-founder-chip-wilsons-788-million-vancouver-property-tops-bc-housing-list/article37477519/)

So today is the last official day of Phase 6 until I get back, which is scheduled for mid-next week. I hope not to lose the momentum I’ve built, but health isn’t only how well you do at the gym or whether or not your gluten free options have been met.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 11

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 11

Earth 37 is super high tech, but the heroes a bit more anti. It’s 30° in Aruba. Is that too hot?

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 11
I managed to get back on track after The Chocolate Almond Incident. This despite a series of psychological pressures ranging from an ailing parent to a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on my server. (Bloody Russians.)

Emotional situations make me want to bake brownies.

And watch superhero shows on NetFlix.

Today I plan to remain calm and stay on track. A derailment is coming so I want to be ready.

I nearly forgot. Good news: My tendonitis yesterday afternoon improved to be almost gone. Weird. I’ll have to see what happens at the gym today.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 10

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 10

Earth 36 is only slightly evocative of what’s familiar. It’s 28° in US Virgin Islands. Wet and cold in Vancouver.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 10
Pick an addictive substance. It will not compare, in my case, to chocolate almonds.

I didn’t train wreck completely, but I have to manage mental and physical fatigue so that this does not happen. I think this is a universal tip: get to the gym even if the exercise is only changing into gym clothes and doing ten pushups. Or whatever. The body will get the message that the training may be slower, but it isn’t stopping.

Oh, for fun, I have some tendonitis in the wrist and that’s making things more challenging. I’d ask “what’s next?” but I don’t want to know the answer.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 9

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 9

Earth 35 is a different bunch. It’s 28° in Anguilla. Sigh.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 9
I guess the good news is that despite being wickedly tired, I avoided the snack attack problems. Of course I haven’t been able to do as much exercise as I want to.

This diet/fitness process is certainly an endurance test and the shift from thinking weight to strength is interesting because, although I feel some clothing loosening, I sincerely doubt, were I to step on the scale, that I would be rewarded by any meaningful number.

Also, the near term challenges are the kicker. The weather is terrible and I don’t even want to go across the street for a coffee! I do have to drag myself to the gym, however. Sigh.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 8

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 8

Earth 34 has a seriously mixed up look. Barbados .

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 8
It’s the start of week 2. There’s a combination of feelings that can be characterized by “wow, that was fast” and “oh crap, I’ve been at this for ages”.

Yoga was tough last night, but it showed I was still recovering from last week’s personal trainer session. This was because the teacher’s class focused on a “splits challenge”, which meant a lot of long holds that hit the hamstrings. It was a little eerie because just the day before I did a stretch class with a bunch of dancers who – you guessed it – were trying to improve their splits.

Me and the splits is as likely as a US Presidential resignation the in the next 60 minutes.

  • Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 7

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 7

Earth 32 is a mix-up of people and their super powers. I’m kind of hoping a plane mix-up will take me to Netherlands Antilles.

Mutant Diet Phase 6 Day 7
Last night, for the sake of science, I ate a couple of 2-bite brownies to see if this salt mouth condition would change. It seems to have been cut back substantially. I can’t now tell if it’s an active thing or a lingering sensation.

Week 2 is coming up and I want to stay on the ultra low carb eating habits to see what happens. I can’t obsess over this because I won’t see a scale until March and all I can do is try to build strength.

I did a stretch class with my son’s dance group and they are working in improving their splits. I substituted some yoga poses. It wasn’t meant to be a big workout, but enjoyed trying to keep some flexibility given the soreness from the last personal trainer session. I full yoga class is tonight. That’ll be interesting.
