    The only good thing I can report this week in diet/fitness is that my deadlift hit 255 pounds. That was Tuesday. Today I’m still sore. Due to a forked up schedule, I could not do my regular yoga class. I have booked myself into a Thursday noon class with the heading in Outlook “Emergency yoga – bring money.” (My 10 class pass ran out.)

    The time has come to realize that Phase 12 is supposed to end in a week, but I think I’m going to simply run it through as best I can. There have been unprecedented distractions and I don’t want to quit.

    This week is mental with a number of responsibilities ranging from helping my wife, my son having a ballet exam, and a problem at his school requiring my assistance.

    Stress eating is one thing. Stress compassion is another.

    I’m about to help run a company-wide session on meditation. The irony is not lost on me.

    Due to my total unwillingness to deal with food properly, I dedicate this day to trying not to lose my shit.

    However, I worked out yesterday and have sore muscles to prove it.

    I also am considering for this summer one of those big long bicycle rides for cancer.

    It’s a tough day today due to all kinds of pressures not related to diet/fitness. But in a way they are related because the mood if all wrong. For example, Starbucks isn’t handling reusable cups due to COVID-19 fears. It seems idiotic because what about the flu? It kills 10 people a day.

    It is challenging not letting things out of your control bug you. For example, the entire United States is bugging me.

    So, let’s be kind and gentle to ourselves and others around us.

    Holy peanut butter cups Batman. Let’s just not talk about the effects of unexpected meetings at coffee shops after a workout or a sick child who wants pizza for dinner.

    Meanwhile at the gym, I hit 235 pounds on the deadlift (2 sets of 3) and today I don’t feel anywhere near as sore as I did last week when I hit 215 pounds. I don’t understand the bio mechanics of this whatsoever.

    My deadlift goal was 250. If I hit that next week, what next?

    Apparently the new Suicide Squad finished shooting the other day. Pray for Alberta. They seem unable to cope.

    This is nuts, of course. My son who was home sick yesterday wanted to make homemade peanut butter cups. That fails the keto or lo-carb tests.

    I was a little surprised that I was as sore as I was in the night given I took the usual Tylenol and an allergy pill due to the early eye itch that heralds alder tree season. The workout on Monday was nominal review of deadlifts and bench press. The good news there is that the left bicep tendonitis is leaving.

    Meanwhile, today, I see the trainer. No point weighing, but I’ll have to be prepared to feel whipped afterwards.

    I ate like a fucking idiot on the weekend.

    In better news, yoga class didn’t make me cry last night, but I’m sore today.

    This whole process is baffling. You aren’t supposed to be mean to yourself when you eat things that you know doesn’t take you to your goal. I guess the point is to be sufficiently unstressed so that you aren’t, uh, stress eating.

    It’s that simple to understand and equally difficult to achieve.

    But I saw a picture of myself from when my first child was a baby. I was jowl-y.

    I promised myself to try to take this day gently and slowly. Of course, the youngest is sick at home. Sigh.

    I’m working on my French. Hier était un gâchis.

    However, I am feeling leaner which might be indicative of all my muscles feeling like they are preparing to lift a Hummer.

    I am uncertain what to do workout-wise because normally I’d do a like weights session. The other option is to do a second yoga class to try to lengthen things. (I have an extra spot of my 10-session pass.)

    I should count my lucky stars that I have the ability to keep working on this.

    Blame God for the pancakes. They put a smile on my wife and son’s face.

    Unrelated, my wife’s laptop had the cable from its hard drive fall off from the motherboard. It’s a complete mystery how this happened, but it’s working!

    I am 25 pounds away from my deadlifting goal of 250. However, I feel it and my neck muscles are tight and that’s not good. I’ll be asking the Trainer about it and seeing what I can do at yoga class today.

    I was looking at my schedule and there’s a hope that no oddness (e.g. broken laptops or religious festivals) derails my dietary control efforts.

    I guarantee you stress causes a desire to compensate with bad food. Case in point, I had plans last night to do important things that would relieve my stress. Like study for my course. Complete an annoying set of reference table changes. Practice my French. The list is endless. Ah, but my wife laptop crashed. This wasn’t just a little trouble with a recent Windows Update. Oh no, it was a full on I-fall-down-go-boom-daddy-I-can’t-get-up crash.

    Blessedly I have an old laptop to use in the meantime and I had backed up my wife’s data about 6 days earlier.

    But now, today, to the repair shop.

    Just in time for rain.
